A Quick History

In 1972 Skipper decided to make money with what had been her hobby, so she opened her first retail shop in the city of Edmunds, WA. As she describes it, it was 'so small, that if three people came in, one had to wait outside!'. A couple years later she moved into a larger shop, one big enough for four people to come in and shop.

In 1976 Skipper and Dick moved to Santa Cruz, CA and opened a large retail shop. Joyce joined them there in 1977, and has worked with them on and off since.

In 1977, the Rock Haus started to do retail gem and mineral shows, and in 1978 the retail shop was closed. Upon closing, Skipper and Dick did nothing but shows, sometimes up to forty a year.

In the fall of 1979, Skipper and Dick moved to Phoenix. AZ, where they stayed until 1996. They started doing retail mail order and shows. In the mid 1980s they moved into the Wholesale only mail order and shows.

Joyce has worked for and with them since 1977. Sometimes in the same city, sometimes while in other cities. If she wasn't in the same city, she did the 'books' and she did all of the catalogs.

In 1996 Skipper and Dick moved to their present location in Colorado Springs, CO. Joyce joined them there in 1997. The Rock Haus became The Rock Haus International when we went to an LLC.

Today

We don't do shows now, we're too busy keeping up with orders! Wire is our main line now, and we carry five main types of wire: Brass, Colored Copper, Copper, Gold Filled, Silver Plated Copper, and Sterling Silver. We also carry a full line of jewelry pliers and wire working tools, along with a variety of other tools. We still have Gem Tree supplies and supplies for making your own jewelry.
